Union South-East Asia Office holds first Latent TB infection consultation in India

A national level technical consultation on “Latent TB Infection in India –opportunities and challenges” was organised by The Union South-East Asia Office from June 29-30 at Chennai, India.

A national level technical consultation on “Latent TB Infection in India –opportunities and challenges” was organised by The Union South-East Asia Office from June 29-30 at Chennai, India, in collaboration with Indian Council for Medical Research, Central TB Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Institute for Research in TB (NIRT) and supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The consultation is the first of its kind to deliberate on Latent TB infection (LTBI) in India.  With an estimated 30 percent people in India with LTBI, the goal of ending TB by 2030 may be difficult. Over 50 national and international experts attended the consultation and discussed the epidemiological situation of LTBI in India, recent updates on the management of LTBI, research needs and proposed recommendations for the TB programme in India on the way forward.
