The Politics of TB in 2018: Multisectoral Accountability

In the lead-up to World TB Day, 24 March, The Union has partnered with Citizen News Service (CNS) for a media webinar that will bring experts together to discuss why a multisectoral response to TB is non-negotiable if we are to end TB by 2030.

The theme of World TB Day 2018 - “Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free World”- focuses on building commitment to end TB, not only at the political level with Heads of State and Ministers of Health, but at all levels from parliamentarians and community leaders, to people affected by TB, civil society advocates, healthworkers, doctors and nurses, NGOs and other partners. All can be leaders of efforts to end TB in their own work or terrain.

The theme has particular resonance, given the political importance of the upcoming United Nations’ General Assembly High-Level Meeting on TB, 26 September 2018, in New York.

The Union/CNS Media Webinar:

Date: Tuesday 20 March 2018

Time: 1200-1300 hrs GMT

Panelists:

  • Dr Mario Raviglione, former Director of the World Health Organization’s Global TB Programme
  • Dr Christopher Zishiri, Country Director (Zimbabwe), The Union
  • Dr Zolelwa Sifumba, TB survivor and management committee member, TB Proof, South Africa
