The Department of Research is a new department in The Union that oversees and provides direction for:
i) the Centre for Operational Research
ii) the Clinical Trials Unit that is currently focused on a phase two pharmacokinetic trial of antiretroviral therapy and rifabutin in HIV-infected TB patients, and
iii) the Health Policy Research Unit.
Other research projects that arise within The Union, but are difficult to place in the technical departments, will also be included as the department grows. The aims of the department are to provide leadership, coordination, information and guidance on research and policy within The Union in order to improve the health of those living in low- and middle-income countries.
The department will work closely with departmental directors and regional office directors to achieve collaboration and information flow about research at The Union and will liaise closely with The Union’s Ethics Advisory Group to promote good ethical standards in research. The department will foster linkage and collaboration with other external institutions and organisations that implement research in low- and middle-income countries. Throughout its work, the department will adhere to and support the vision, mission and core values embodied in The Union. |
