SORT IT operational research course now on video

There is a growing national and international need for operational research (OR) and related capacity building in global public health. Since 2009, The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and Médecins sans Frontières-Brussels-Luxembourg (MSF) have been offering a course that provides practical and output oriented OR training. Offered over three one-week modules, it covers all the steps from developing a protocol to submitting the results for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

In January 2013, The Union and MSF joined forces with the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), which is based at the World Health Organization, and the course is now known as the Structured Operational Research and Training Initiative (SORT IT) course.  As of 30 November 2015, 339 participants from 79 countries have  been trained through 29 course offerings.

To expand the reach of this important programme, the SORT IT course is now available as a series of videos. This extensive series allows viewers to see and hear the lectures delivered by faculty for each of the three modules that make up the course.

Each video covers a lecture showing the PowerPoint slide presentation (or screen capture of a software demonstration) with the facilitator delivering the talk in a streamed fashion in a window box next to the presentation.

The series is designed for those who are interested in learning more about operational research, for those who have not yet been able to attend the in-person course or for those who have undertaken a course and would like a refresher.

The videos may be used for by either individuals or groups to facilitate training. They may also be incorporated into new models of SORT IT courses involving online learning.

We hope you will find the video series useful and enjoyable.
