In Hanoi, Minister of Health Mdm Nguyen Thi Kim Tien received a WHO medal for her commitment to tobacco control and her team’s efforts to progress this work. At same time, the Ministry of Health presented The Union with a special award for its tobacco control support over the last decade.

Ministry of Health representatives joined with members of civil society in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate a decade of progress in tobacco control across Vietnam. A review of the last 10 years’ successes included the passing of a comprehensive tobacco control law in 2012, establishment of a sustainable fund for this work, and strengthening of pro-tobacco control alliances and networks across government and civil society. Future challenges that were highlighted included the low price of tobacco products and the need to strengthen enforcement of tobacco control laws.
