17th Conference of The Union Latin America Region to be held next month in Peru

The Union’s Latin America Region members, supported by The Union Office in Peru, are preparing to gather for their 17th region conference on Friday, 22 August from 08:00 to 019:00, at the Hotel Las Dunas in Ica, Peru. The theme of the conference will be an Integrated approach to TB, social determinants and comorbidity.

Conference sessions will cover multidrug-resistant tuberculosis; TB and comorbidities, such as HIV and diabetes mellitus; TB infection control in health facilities, TB in children; TB and smoking; and other related issues.  A session on TB control in large cities will look at metropolitan Lima, the capital of Peru.

José Luis Castro, Executive Director of The Union, will be a special guest for the day-long programme; and Dr Paula I Fujiwara, Scientific Director, will give a brief overview of The Union’s global and regional scientific activities.

Dr José Caminero Luna of Spain, who is head of The Union’s MDR-TB Unit, will be among the key speakers, along with experts who are also officers of the Latin America Region, Dr Ronulfo Vega of Peru (President) and Dr Jesús Felipe González of Mexico (Secretary General).

The Union conference is being held in conjunction with the Congreso Nacional de Neumologia on 22-24 August at the same location.
