Child lung health was one focal area of the World Bank-funded Comprehensive Approach to Lung Health project, which was conducted by The Union in Benin, China and Sudan from 2005-2008.
In Kigoma, Tanzania, The Union was asked to help address the issue of neonatal and young infant mortality from pneumonia and sepsis, as part of a maternal and child survival project. The goal was to create a pilot project within the government health system in one region that would demonstrate how effective case management procedures improve outcomes –– and at a cost within reach of the proposed national health budget.
