The IMDP’s curriculum addresses key issues such as:
-Developing budgets for national health programmes and international donors
-Organising and training health staff across various regions and provinces
-Coordinating medicines and supplies
-Motivating overworked staff
-Creating communications plans to disseminate important health messages
-Adhering to strategies that boost detection rates

Communications has become a necessary component to any health programme. During this five-day course, participants will receive training on how to write a professional press release, develop promotional tools, conduct media outreach, and discover how to build positive public awareness around an organisation’s work.
The objective of this course is to provide participants with practical knowledge and skills needed for effective management of drugs and laboratory commodities necessary in today's TB programmes. The techniques presented during lectures will be applied during realistic exercises and scenarios. Participants involved in other health programmes will also benefit from the training as there is increasing overlap among different health prorammes.
By mastering leadership skills, participants will be able to direct and influence any group of personnel in or outside of an organisation. Senior experts in public health and management training integrate lectures, role-playing scenarios, and work simulations that guide participants through critical questions and effective solutions in advanced management training.
Leading teams that work within critical areas of health care is a considerable challenge to any national health programme manager who is expected to develop and adhere to strategies for a country’s health projects. Become a stronger leader within your health organisation who is able to foresee potential challenges and confidently meet them by developing successful health programme strategies. This course focuses on creating a learning organisation that has the capacity to identify key issues blocking organisational progress – whether operational, strategic or policy-related.
This course provides participants advanced training in budget development processes for national health programmes. The course also is ideal for those tasked with creating international donor applications. Furthermore, participants will learn to conduct accurate and clear financial reporting, as well as techniques on how to monitor funds throughout the duration of a project. Participants will engage in simulated work projects that mirror situations they will encounter in the workplace. Making use of lectures, in-class discussions and exercises incorporating real-life situations, this course will guide participants to higher levels of financial expertise and responsibility.
The success of a health project is most often determined by how well a project was planned during its inception. Project planning is one of the fundamental steps involved in any health programme. Anyone in charge of managing aspects of a health initiative find that they must tackle key elements concerning the project such as identifying project stakeholders, establishing a timeline for activities, determining the core objectives, and drafting a budget. Great care and attention must be paid during this crucial stage of a health project to ensure that activities run smoothly and stay on track.
The training uses a variety of methods based on action learning principles such as group work, peer support, and case studies. This is complimented by presentations on relevant theoretical framework and emerging trends. Participants will engage in practical exercises that will build their capacity in international donor applications as well as strengthening their project management abilities.
In today’s changing world of public health, programmme managers need to balance many different roles and responsibilities in order to manage the changing needs a national health programme. To do this, the leader has to work in an environment that is complex and requires working with many different individuals who often have opposing interests, expectations, and goals. To keep a health programme running smoothly managers must learn to build consensus within groups and across organisations. This course, a part of the IMDP’s facilitative leadership series, guides participants through conflict management, relationship nurturing, and coalition building in order to train participants to create networks that can help ensure a health programme meets its goals.
