An organisation based on collaboration

An organisation based on collaboration
Collaboration has been essential to the work of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease since it was founded in 1920 as a federation of 31 national lung associations. Their purpose was to create an international organisation that could foster collaboration between its members around the world and provide services such as international conferences, publications and research that would benefit them all.

Members in 127 countries

In 2008 The Union had 2,727 members in 127 countries creating a strong international network. (LINK TO INTERNATIONAL NETWORK) One common goal unites constituent, organisational and individual members: the commitment to improve global lung health.

Collaborating centres

Members can partner with The Union as Collaborating Centres. Guided by The Union’s constitution, Collaborating Centres are organisations that share our goals and are active in education, research and publications.

In-country partners and sponsors

The Union provided technical assistance, education and research programmes to 80 countries in 2008 at the request of national TB and AIDS programmes, ministries of health, local NGOs, funding agencies, advocacy organisations and other in-country partners.
