Europe region member elected to important role at The Union PDF Print E-mail

Dr Reuben Granich MD, MPH of Switzerland is the Chair of the HIV Scientific Section of The Union; he also is the Representative of this Section to The Union Board of Directors. Dr Granich works as a Medical Officer at the Antiretroviral Treatment and HIV Care, HIV/AIDS Department World Health Organisation.

Dr Rod Escombe MD DTM&H PhD of the United Kingdom was awarded the 2009 Union Scientific Prize, which acknowledges a researcher less than 45 years of age for work on tuberculosis or non-tuberculous disease published in the past five years. Dr Escombe is a Honorary Research Fellow, Wellcome Centre for Clinical Tropical Medicine & Department of Infectious Diseases & Immunity, Imperial College London, UK. He received the award for his papers published in PLoS Medicine on natural ventilation for the prevention of airborne contagion, upper room UV light for prevention of nosocomial TB transmission and the infectiousness of TB patients co-infected with HIV.

 
TB CAP Supports the Scale-Up of TB Infection Control PDF Print E-mail

The Tuberculosis Control Assistance Program (TB CAP) is a USAID five-year cooperative agreement (2005-2010) that has been awarded to TBCTA with KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation as the lead partner. The Tuberculosis Coalition for Technical Assistance (TBCTA) is a unique coalition of the major international organisations in TB control, including The Union, the Japan Anti-TB Association (JATA), the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and other organisations.
TB CAP identified inadequate awareness concerning TB-Infection Control (TB-IC) among authorities, program managers and health workers, and responded by beginning the promotion of TB-IC in 2007.
