The Kenyan NTP, TBCAP Kenya, KEMRI, CDC, KAPTLD and partners collaborated to organise the first National Scientific Lung Health Conference. It took place October 7-10, 2009 in Nairobi , Kenya . In an effort to develop the international network of members, the Marketing Department of The Union launched a campaign to recruit new members. Several African countries took up the offer of a free membership in 2009, as a trial offer.
